The NBA regular season continued with the SUNS losing 107-96 to the Lakers. After the game, SUNS player Devin Booker spoke to the media to review and summarise the game.
Booker said the SUNS ‘poor start was frustrating. He mentioned that sometimes the team does the right thing and sometimes it doesn’t, and this instability makes the team’s performance ebb and flow. In particular, he said, there have been moments when the team has shown it can do the right things but has not been able to sustain them consistently, which has made things even more frustrating.
Booker also mentioned that after the SUNS missed a few shots early on, it affected the team’s defensive performance. He believes that if the team can play with energy and effort, then the players can sleep well at night regardless of the result. Unfortunately, he feels the team is not doing that right now.
Speaking about defending Luka Doncic, Booker said the SUNS tried to double him at first, but not completely. He believes Doncic can still read the defence and create offensive opportunities, which is one of the reasons Doncic finished with 33 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Booker’s comments reveal the current problems and deficiencies of the SUNS, the team needs to find a consistent way to perform and maintain energy and effort in the game. At the same time, the SUNS also need to find a more effective defensive strategy to limit the play of a top player like Doncic.
