In the NBA regular season game between the Lakers and the SUNS, in addition to the fierce confrontation and wonderful goals, there was also a funny trash-talk duel between the Lakers’ Doncic and the SUNS ‘Durant.
During the game, Doncic and Durant exchanged words. Doncic first teased Durant about one of his plays by saying, “Smart round, smart round,” and Durant quickly shot back, saying Doncic doesn’t get that kind of call in the playoffs. Not to be outdone, Doncic responded: “I’ve never had a space this big in my life, this is my first time.” By implication, he implied that the SUNS ‘defence gave him too much space.
Then, after Doncic’s layup, he said triumphantly: “I scored again.” When Durant stepped to the free throw line, Doncic interfered with his free throw, joking: “Your toe is on the line, that’s why you miss free throws.”
In addition to the confrontation with Durant, Doncic also did not forget to communicate with teammates. “I’ll find you,” he told Hayes. Then he assisted the latter to complete the dunk, showing excellent team coordination ability.
Doncic played well in 39 minutes, scoring 33 points, 11 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals on 8-of-20 shooting, with a plus/minus score of +16. Durant, on the other hand, had 21 points, nine rebounds and two assists on 6-of-17 shooting in 37 minutes, with a minus-12 positive/negative rating.
The trash-talking duel in this game definitely added more excitement and interest to the game, and also let the fans see the other side of the players on the court.
