Former Lakers centre Christian Wood posted an update on his status on social media, excitingly declaring, “In a week I’ll be playing, a year on, glad to be back.” The news revealed Wood’s eagerness and joy to be back on the pitch.
Looking back at last offseason, Wood opted to exercise a $3 million player option for the 2024-25 season and remain with the Lakers. However, fate seems not to be too favourable for him, he has been unable to play for the Purple and Gold this season due to injury. Last month, the Lakers had to cut Wood to make room for junior Ryan.
Wood played in 67 games for the Lakers last season, averaging only 17.4 minutes per game, but he was able to produce 6.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and one assist on 46.6 per cent, 30.7 per cent and 70.2 per cent shooting respectively. His last appearance in a game dates back to Feb. 15. He had two points and four rebounds in the Lakers’ road win over the Jazz,
After a lengthy recovery from two arthroscopic surgeries, Wood has finally made a comeback. His comments on social media were not only a celebration of his return from injury, but also an expectation of his future career. At present, Wood is still unemployed, but he believes that with his strength and hard work, he will soon be able to find a new home and continue his basketball dream.
