According to German newspaper Bild, Bayer Leverkusen’s management is actively preparing for a new contract with young star Wirtz and plans to meet with his parents again.
Before the news, Leverkusen CEO Carro and sports director Rolfes are fully promoting the renewal process with Wirtz. They are interested in extending Wirtz’s existing contract from 2027 to 2028 and include a release clause worth around €125 million in the new contract, which is expected to take effect from the summer of 2026. At the same time, Wirtz’s annual salary will be significantly increased, from the current maximum of 8 million euros to more than 10 million euros.
Wirtz’s parents, Karin and Hans, are expected to meet Karlo and Rolfes again soon to discuss the details of a contract extension. If the two sides cannot agree on a contract extension, Leverkusen will consider pushing for Wirtz this summer for a fee expected to be at least 150 million euros.
It is worth mentioning that Wirz’s performance in Leverkusen this season is very good, he has represented the team and has played 34 games, including 27 starts, a total of 15 goals and 11 assists.
