Leverkusen women’s national team member Shen Menglu ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during the match, which means her season has come to an end early, according to a heart-wrenching announcement released on the official channel of Leverkusen Women’s Football.
An emotional post on official social media read: “This is really sad news! Shen suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during the home match against Werder Bremen and is expected to miss several months. We sincerely wish her a speedy recovery and a more resilient return to the game. Come on Lulu!”
Shen was injured in Leverkusen’s 6-0 victory over Werder Bremen. After the game, she underwent an MRI that confirmed the severity of the injury.
