In the 28th round of La Liga, Real Madrid won 2-1 away to Villarreal, and Mbappe became the focus of the audience. He scored two goals in just six minutes, creating several personal records.
Only seven minutes into the game, Real Madrid accidentally conceded. But Mbappe quickly rose to the challenge, and in the 17th minute, he sent a brilliant straight plug in front of the box. Diaz’s right-hand forward shot was saved, and Mbappe followed up with a rebound shot to make it 1-1! Real Madrid quickly equalised. Just six minutes later, Vazquez crossed back from the right side of the triangle, Mbappe in the middle of the ball after the ball fell to the ground volley, the ball came into the net, 2-1! Real Madrid came back.
Statistics show that Mbappe has scored 31 goals in all competitions this season, surpassing the “alien” Ronaldo’s 30 goals record in his first season at Real Madrid in only 43 games. Ronaldo scored 33 goals in his first season at Real Madrid, and Mbappe is just two goals shy of that record.
Mbappe is second in the league’s scoring list with 20 goals, just behind Lewan (21). Entering 2025, Mbappe has scored 17 goals for Real Madrid in all competitions, second only to Dembele in the five major leagues.
In the last five seasons, only Mbappe and Holland have scored at least 20 goals in each of the Big Five leagues. Only Mbappe and Benzema have scored at least 20 goals in a single season for Real Madrid in La Liga since Ronaldo’s departure in 2018.
It is worth mentioning that Mbappe has scored at least 30 goals for seven consecutive seasons in the five major leagues, becoming the first French player in history to achieve this feat. When he played Villarreal in La Liga, he became the sixth player to score twice in the past 26 years, along with Morites, Sneijder, Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Guerra.
After the game, Mbappe said he was in very good shape and was looking forward to 2025. The most important goal, he stressed, was to help the team win a title, be it La Liga, the Copa del Rey or the Champions League. While goals are important, winning titles is what gives those numbers real value. Mbappe has respect for the records of Ronaldo and Ronaldo, but he is more interested in the success and glory of the team.
