Newcastle end a 70-year domestic Cup drought by winning the League Cup

Newcastle United went head-to-head with Liverpool in a passionate final at Wembley Stadium. Newcastle won the League Cup for the first time and broke a 70-year drought in domestic competition with a 2-1 win over Liverpool thanks to a powerful header from Dan Byrne and a goal from Isaac.

Newcastle United showed a strong desire to attack in the first half and Dan Byrne’s powerful header gave them the lead. For Liverpool, Jota missed a great chance to score and left his side behind. Isaac’s second-half goal extended Newcastle’s lead and although Liverpool pulled a goal back through Chiesa Junior in stoppage time, there was nothing to change the result.

This title means a lot to Newcastle United. The 70-year wait to win a domestic cup, which has eluded them since 1955, has finally paid off. It was Newcastle’s first-ever League Cup title, having twice reached the final but failed to win it.

As the defending champions of the English League Cup this season, Liverpool, although all the way through, failed to continue the previous good form in the final, and finally lost to Newcastle United, failed to achieve the title. It also makes Manchester City, the last team to successfully defend the English League Cup (four in a row in 2020-21), all the more unique.

Newcastle United won the championship, not only for the team to write a new chapter in history but also for the fans brought endless joy and pride. I believe that in the future, Newcastle United will continue to work hard to bring more wonderful games and honours to the fans.
