Slot: Liverpool’s defeat was glorious and the penalty shootout was a pity

Liverpool’s defeat

Liverpool lost 1-0 in 90 minutes to Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals and lost 4-1 on penalties, but coach Slot spoke highly of his team’s performance in a post-match interview.

“It was the best football game I’ve ever been a part of,” Slot said first. The performance of the team was amazing, especially compared to last week, when we improved significantly. In the first 20 to 25 minutes, we dominated the game and created chance after chance.” However, it was a pity that Liverpool failed to convert these chances into goals and instead allowed their opponents to take a chance to take the lead.

“After 90 minutes, I didn’t think we deserved to be 1-0 down,” Slot said. “I was expecting an equaliser, but unfortunately, apart from a couple of threats in the last five minutes, I didn’t think they did anything good. We had an almost perfect game and our only regret was that we didn’t score.”

“It’s always hard to accept a result like this when the team has worked so hard,” Slot said. We Dutch always seem to know how to lose on penalties, which is a shame.”

Despite the elimination, Slaughter was still proud of Liverpool’s performance: “It had all the elements of a good football game. From Liverpool’s point of view, there should have been at least a draw after 90 minutes, but it went to penalties instead. It feels unfair to be knocked out so early, but that’s the beauty of football.”

Slot also looked ahead to the rest of the season: “At the moment, the task for the rest of the season is clear, we still have a League Cup final and nine Premier League games to play. We will continue to work hard and try to do well in the remaining games.”

Although the Champions League exit is regrettable, Liverpool’s performance in the game is still commendable. They showed great attacking power and fighting spirit, but a little less luck. I believe that in the future, Liverpool will continue to work hard to bring more wonderful games for the fans.
