TA: Barcelona have long coveted Diaz

As the summer transfer window approaches, FC Barcelona has made it clear that it is a priority to bring in a new left winger, a decision made by the team led by sporting director Deco, who believe that it is urgent to strengthen the team’s left attack. Among the potential targets are AC Milan’s Leo and Liverpool’s Luis Diaz.

Barcelona are interested in Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein. In fact, Barcelona had tried to sign Dias from Porto long before he joined Liverpool in January 2022. Last year, Manchester City was also linked with a transfer of Diaz, but ultimately failed to succeed. Ornstein further pointed out that there is no sign that Diaz will sign a new contract with Liverpool, which is unusual for a player who has had a good run at Anfield.

Barca have been in close contact with Dias and their admiration for the player is overwhelming. Rumours linking Dias with a move to Manchester City last summer were not unfounded. Once Diaz enters the transfer market, he will undoubtedly become the focus of many teams. The future of Deias remains a key uncertainty at Liverpool, although players such as Salah, van Dijk and Arnold are more in the spotlight. It is worth mentioning that Liverpool considered bringing in Gordon as an option before the financial settlement deadline of June 30 last year, but it is uncertain whether that plan will be revived. If Liverpool need to make a move, they will naturally have other options.

Diaz has had an outstanding season, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 41 games. His contract with Liverpool is due to expire in 2027 and although negotiations over an extension have stalled for some time, it appears that the relationship between the two sides is gradually warming up, which will undoubtedly pose a greater challenge to Barcelona’s recruitment plans. Deco and his team are still keeping a close eye on Diaz at Liverpool and hope to bring him in during the summer transfer window. That is, of course, if Barca’s finances allow it. Recently, it was reported that Barcelona have been in contact with Diaz’s team to discuss the possibility of a summer transfer.
